Cars are freaking expensive, y'all. Holy cow.

This is entirely based on a true story. That whole day sucked in general, but the whole visit to the mechanic just made it all. I thought I could glide along through it on a wave of doodling and preparing myself for the worst, but this guy... THIS GUY. Ho man. He just would not... he just had to talk, man. He just would not stop. At first I tried to talk back, but after awhile I just realized that was not the conversation we were having.
But hey. You know, he had a nice time and I ended up being able to draw after all.

And then the bill came and that was - well. Then I got in the car and the engine was totally silent on the drive home and that made it aaaaaaaall worth it.

Do you need to start commissions again? xD

I've felt your pain before. I have an old car. Her name is Ruby and I love her because she's my first car but there are times where I need to get her fix and she costs an arm and leg. Thankfully, my parents pay for it but I want to help her out.

Nah, I'm good for now, thank goodness!

Are you serious? The car I learned to drive in was a red minivan I named Ruby. That's so cool!

Totally! Although, what parents would give both their children the same name...?

Maybe they're distant cousins.

That would make more sense.

At least the car got fixed! I go into maintenance checks dreading what will happen because my car is driven a lot thanks to a 30 minute commute (and that's on no traffic days!) With all the driving I do, it's almost like I'm trying to make up the time I didn't drive. But, truthfully I definitely would much rather take a train or bus.

Yeah, at least I got my money's worth!
But definitely, a morning commute that you can read or listen to music on would be so much better than fighting traffic. At least someone else would be able to do it for you.
But isn't traffic in California supposed to be horrible?

Definitely. I would like nothing more than to have someone else worry about the traffic and the responsibility of watching every other person driving.

Traffic is bad during rush hour in all the highways and freeways, particularly if you're close to a big cluster of cities, ie the San Francisco, Oakland, and the Bay Area, or the LA basin. Traffic in those areas are a nightmare. The 405 in LA is basically a parking lot during rush hour and it has four or five lanes per side, I believe. They recently widened it to ease traffic flow. Hahaha, I think it did the opposite.

I live in northern CA now in Sonoma County where there is literally one freeway to get you south towards San Francisco. Although they have and are still in the process of widening the roads here, the traffic is really bad during rush hours, but not like the 405. Outside of rush hour, driving isn't that bad though, unless of course someone is stupid enough to crash into a telephone pole on an easy stretch of highway (this has happened at least twice that I know of). But since rush hour can't be avoided, I've pretty much resigned myself to leaving the house at 6:35-6:45 AM just to make my commute 30-45 minutes rather than an hour and a half. At least when I leave that early I can hang out in the car pool lane until 7:00 AM so I can avoid the people who don't believe that the fast lane is in fact the fast lane. Apparently everyone who wants to drive however they feel like think that because there is one extra lane that they don't need to be polite anymore. >_>

Ugh, that just sounds awful all around, but you have the right idea. I'd prefer to arrive much earlier just to avoid a stressful commute. Hopefully they let you leave early, too, so you can avoid the rush home!

if you think California traffic is bad, I'd hate to see what you think about Houston traffic; I've nearly been wrecked 4 times in as many days this week!
